Having grown up in Greensboro, NC, Kayla Johnson had enjoyed a bigger city lifestyle. However, in coming to Marion, IN, to attend college at Indiana Wesleyan University in 2008, she got to know what it felt like to live in a small town. Kayla had found her fit, and decided to become a permanent resident in 2012 after graduating.
"I'm a social person, and as I got to know people in Marion, I easily felt belonging in this small community. This has been very important to me as I've navigated my early adulthood, and I know I'm becoming the person I want to be because of living here."
Kayla is Marion's Neighborhood Association Coordinator, and is firmly affixed on community development in many ways through the Community Gardens Alliance, United Way of Grant County, Circles of Grant County, Affordable Housing, and much more. She has also been the director of Main Street Marion among community-focused employment before landing her current career with the City. She also serves as a community champion for Make My Move.
Kayla became a homeowner in recent years, and enjoys spending time with her dog, Gibson, quality time with her wealth of friends in and around the area, and enjoys walking and cycling, and being in the outdoors whenever possible.
