The beautiful Ouachita National Forest is a short hour and a half drive from Texarkana. Albert Pike Recreation Area is a popular place to explore within the forest. One of our favorite places to visit is also right near there, Little Missouri Falls. This series of cascading waterfalls runs year round and it's a great place to visit and explore all year. There is a parking lot with pit toilets and then it's a short walk over a bridge and along a trail to view the falls. Part of the Eagle Rock Loop backpacking trail (27 mile loop) passes along the falls as well. This area is gravel and forest roads but high clearance vehicles are not needed. Be aware that there is no cell phone service so start your directions prior to leaving Texarkana. It's about a 2 hour drive, 30 minutes of which are winding along the forest roads. Pack a picnic and plan to spend the day on this fun day trip from Texarkana. Put "Little Missouri Falls" into Google or Apple maps to find it.
