Description
Spencer County is home to the longest-running County Fair in Indiana, offering a farming-friendly community where residents are thoughtful and supportive. When needed, people are always there to help. Children attending local schools receive a quality education and are well cared for. The area provides many healthcare options and is conveniently located near educational institutions: 20 minutes from WKU-O, Brescia University, and Kentucky Wesleyan College, and 45 minutes from the University of Southern Indiana, the University of Evansville, and Ivy Tech Community College.
The county is comprised of seven towns, with Rockport serving as the county seat along the Ohio River. Rockport is also home to the South Spencer Rebel Baseball team, which claimed state championships in 2007, 2011, 2013, and 2015. Chrisney, located in the center of the county, hosts the 4-H Fair, the Youth and Community Center, and the Annual Pork Producers dinner. Santa Claus, known for the famous Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari—the cleanest theme park in America—is also home to Heritage Hills High School, where the 2000 State Champion Football team played.
Dale hosts the Dale Fall Festival each September, a large event that brings together people from surrounding towns for food, fun, and festivities. Spencer County is enriched by numerous nonprofit organizations, including Kiwanis, Tri Kappa, Eastern Star, the Masonic Lodge, and the Association for a Better Rockport, among others.
The community is also proud of its historical landmarks, such as the Lincoln Amphitheatre, Lincoln State Park, and the Lincoln Pioneer Village, all of which celebrate the life of Abraham Lincoln during his time in the area. These hidden gems highlight the county’s rich heritage and community spirit.
