Savannah: FUN FACT
During the Civil War, Union General William Tecumseh Sherman spared the City of Savannah from destruction and presented it, via telegram, as a Christmas gift to President Abraham Lincoln. Sherman, who previously set fire to much of Atlanta, was apparently impressed with Savannah’s beauty and didn’t want to destroy it.
