Valparaiso: FUN FACT
Valparaiso has a unique claim to fame that combines history and a touch of Hollywood magic! The city was once nicknamed "Hollywood on the Dunes" during the early 20th century. Silent film studios flocked to Valparaiso due to the beautiful natural landscapes surrounding the area, particularly the towering dunes. Several silent films were produced here, including scenes for the classic Lon Chaney movie, "The Phantom of the Opera" (1925). Although the days of silent films have passed, Valparaiso still holds onto this interesting piece of movie-making history.
