The City of Prairie View, Texas, is adjacent to Waller and Hempstead's cities and in your path to Austin and College Station, Texas.

Palm Springs

Located in the Sonoran Desert of Southern California, Palm Springs combines vintage charm with modern luxury. Hot summer temperatures and cool, partly cloudy winters provide ample opportunity for outdoor recreation, such as horseback riding trails, hiking and biking. Known as the Golf Capital of the World, Palm Springs boasts more than 100 golf courses.

Take a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, one of the steepest ascents in the world. Starting on the Coachella Valley desert floor, this breathtaking ride lasts eight minutes before reaching Mountain Station, located 8,500 feet above sea level. Relaxation more your style? Visit nearby Desert Palm Springs, where underground aquifers allow you to soak in baths drawn from 600-year-old mineral water.

Plentiful dining opportunities satisfy locals with numerous brunch options, bars, lounges and pet-friendly restaurants. Palm Canyon Drive, a prime shopping location, features many vintage boutiques, as well as interior design shops.

Abundant festivals keep residents entertained year-round. Held each fall, the golf cart parade features 100 unique entries, which draw about 25,000 spectators to El Paso Drive. Ponca City is named after the Ponca tribe, who relocated from Nebraska to northern Oklahoma from 1877 to 1880.

Plainfield is just a stone's throw from Indianapolis, so you get that small-town vibe without being too far removed from the big-city action. The cost of living here is super reasonable compared to Indy itself, with nice homes going for a pretty penny less. And when you're not clocked in working remotely, there's plenty to keep you busy right in Plainfield. The locally-owned restaurant scene is top-notch. You've got to check out Oasis Diner for some world-famous pie and diner grub. They've been featured on all the foodie shows. Then there's The Coachman, an unpretentious steakhouse with live music. Their prime rib is to die for. For something a little trendier, Brew Link Brewing has amazing craft beers and gourmet bar food. As for recreational offerings, you're just a couple of miles from Hummel Park which has a wooden pedestrian bridge, playgrounds, a splash pad, an amphitheater for live music and a sledding hill. The town also has a huge recreation and aquatic center with basketball courts, exercise areas, pools, an indoor play area, community rooms, a media center and fitness trails. There are also a ton of community events happening all year round in the charming downtown area. Now for families, the Plainfield school system is really solid. Both Plainfield High School and the middle/elementary schools get high ratings—lots of AP classes, extracurriculars and strong sports programs. The town in general just has such a family-friendly, safe atmosphere that makes it ideal for raising kids. Paoli

As the county seat of Orange County, Paoli provides residents with plenty of outdoor recreation from enjoying a hike in Pioneer Mothers Memorial Forest to shredding the gnar at Paoli Peaks. Check out the third-oldest operational courthouse in Indiana, which affords an incredible view of Courthouse Square from its balcony. The surrounding Courthouse Square offers boutiques, antique stores, restaurants, and a barber shop. Enjoy a bite at the deli, join the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, and purchase local produce from Paoli’s co-op, Lost River Market & Deli. Keep an eye on their events calendar for upcoming farm-to-table dinners. Co-op makers produce many of the products sold there in the community kitchen — a resource for culinary entrepreneurs, bakers, caterers, and more — at the First Presbyterian Church of Paoli. About an hour northwest in Daviess County is Amish Country, where you can enjoy shopping, eating a family-style Amish dinner, or interacting with the Amish community. The annual PaoliFest celebrates music, art, and community with performances, jam sessions, and collaborative art-making. Visit the historic Lindley House, listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Imbibe at wineries on the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail. In nearby French Lick, check out the West Baden Springs Hotel’s immense atrium. City amenities and an international airport live just an hour away in Louisville, Kentucky.

Owensboro

Owensboro, Kentucky, sits in the crook of the bend of the Ohio River, which led 18th-century settlers to originally call it “Yellowbanks,” for the yellow sands located along the river. The long, hot summers provide outdoor enthusiasts plenty of opportunities for water sports, hiking, biking, or simply enjoying one of the area’s many parks. Nature enthusiasts might also enjoy the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden or visiting the World’s Largest Sassafras Tree. The Louisville, Kentucky, airport is located less than 100 miles from Owensboro.

Parkville

A historic city in Southern Platte County, Parkville is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Situated on the banks of the Missouri River, Parkville offers small-town living and community pride. 

Home of two nature sanctuaries, Parkville’s recreational opportunities provide fun for all ages and fitness levels. Hike three miles on the Jim Reed Trail System at Parkville Nature Sanctuary. Play volleyball or disc golf at English Landing Park and take a scenic walk along the three-mile trail. 

Tour S.D. Strong Distilling, which makes vodka, bourbon, gin, and rye whiskey in a cave 65 feet underground. Located 18 miles southwest, in Kansas City, Missouri, visit the National World War 1 Museum and Memorial. There, discover more than 300,000 objects and documents from the Great War while listening to curated stories. 

Nearby, the Kansas City International Airport offers more than 40 direct flights to popular destinations including Boston, Charleston, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City.

Poteau

If it’s small town charm you’re seeking, Poteau, Oklahoma – just 12-miles from the Arkansas state border – is the perfect community for you. With ample recreational options including Cavanal Hill (one foot shy of earning “mountain” status), outdoor enthusiasts compete in mountain bike races and the Cavanal Hill Killer 5-Mile Walk. If adventure sports aren’t your thing, not to worry – soak in the beautiful scenery from the top via the blacktop roads that lead to a well-maintained viewing area. Additionally, the community offers the The Twyman Park & Pool, a playground, tennis courts, and a season swimming pool. Just a short drive southwest of Poteau you’ll find Lake Wister and the Lake Wister State Park. Oxford

A creative community in Northern Mississippi and located 75 miles southeast of Memphis, Oxford is known as “The Cultural Mecca of the South.” 

Explore the city’s historic town square, browsing Square Books, a well-known independent bookstore occupying four stores in three separate buildings. Tour Rowan Oak, home of Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner, who penned several famous works while living there, including “As I Lay Dying” and “A Fable.” Home to the University of Mississippi, walk the Mississippi Trail, pausing at the Ole’ Miss statue dedicated to James Meredith, the university’s first African American student, who was admitted in 1962 during the Civil Rights movement. While on campus, visit the J.D. Williams Library and discover the blues archives. Touting three major collections, the B.B. King Collection includes 7,000 recordings, plus films, photos, and other big-band era memorabilia. 

Learn about Oxford’s history at the Burns-Belfry Museum, which displays African American exhibits about slavery and civil rights. Enjoy the great outdoors and fish for crappie at Sardis Lake or bike the South Campus Rail Trail. 

Dine at a variety of unique restaurants offering everything from down-home cooking to food prepared by award-winning chefs. 

Less than an hour away, Tupelo Regional Airport utilizes Contour Airlines to provide direct flights to Nashville, Oakland, Phoenix, and Baltimore.

Ottawa

Located in northern Illinois, Ottawa is a diverse and progressive city offering a small-town lifestyle with modern amenities.

Pueblo

For “small town vibes under big open skies”, the vibrant community of Pueblo, Colorado is ideally located at the confluence of the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek and is just over 100 miles south of Denver. Referred to as “Steel City”, Pueblo is one of the largest steel producing cities in the United States. Provo

Just over 40 miles from metro Salt Lake City and in the heart of Utah Valley, Provo is the third-largest city in the state. The community’s mountainous surroundings paired with its off-the-charts food scene and vibrant tech community give off an energetic vibe. It’s no wonder several billion-dollar tech companies have chosen Provo as their headquarters, including Vivint Smart Home, Novatek, Nu Skin Enterprises, and Qualtrics.
